The article quotes JPII, but otherwise is sound. And in this particular case, JPII was actually correct. Even Bishop Williamson has said the same thing about defense of the defenseless, and even about self-defense.
"Let us thank God for having called us to His holy faith. It is a great gift, and the number of those who thank God for it is small."

  • Here is a beautiful movie of St. Gabriel made in 2001.  It is in italian with english sub titles.  It is a region 2 DVD but can be played on some players in North America.

San Gabriele DVD Azione | eBay

For those who speak italian you can watch the movie in it's entirety without the english subtitles.

  • Sorry, to buy the DVD you have to go to ebay.it and type in San Gabriele.  The one for $5.99 EU ships to North America for a total of about $19.00 US shipping included

  • As well as being the patron saint of gun owners, St Gabriel should be the patron saint of single men looking for a good wife....after all he managed to be engaged to two girls ....at the same time!

I have read two biographies of Saint Gabriel; both were written by members of the Passionist order.  Only in the second and modern bio is there a mention of the gun story. The first bio does not mention it.  When asked more about this the priest of the second bio stated that he made up the story to make the book more interesting. As soon as I can I will post here the names of the two authors. The first and earliest bio in English is, imo, the only one you want to read. If you search for a bio of the Saint the second bio is the one that pops up. Difficult to find the first one. Shame on him for mixing fiction with non-fiction.
