In one thread the topic of the baptism/assumption of St. Joseph came up, so I decided to make a separate thread.  I have a copy of the book, The Life of St. Joseph as manifested by Our Lord Jesus Christ to Sr. Maria Cecilia Baij, OSB (d.1766). I highly recommend this book, and I know others who have read the book agree with me in this. In the last chapter of the book, Ch. 62, she says:

"When the Savior of the world gloriously and victoriously arose from the dead on the third day following His painful death, He, thereafter, proceeded to deliver and to take with him from Limbo, those souls which had been confined there. Joseph's glorified soul was, by the power of God, again reunited to his blessed body...Saint Joseph enjoys in heaven a glory which is indescribable and which surpasses that of any other saint."  (pp.340-341)

The interesting thing is, and if others want to weigh in, is there any liturgical tradition either for the Assumption or the Baptism of St. Joseph?  I have uploaded the PDFs if one wants to the read the entire piece:

  • This seems to contradict the visions of Bl. Anne Catherine Emmerich.

No, it doesn’t contradict Bl. Anne who is quoted here saying

Only a few men followed the coffin with Jesus and Mary; but I saw it accompanied by angels and environed with light. Joseph’s remains were afterward removed by the Christians to Bethlehem, and interred. I think I can still see him lying there incorrupt.

Obviously here Jesus has not yet died and risen.

Thank you, Bryan, for the copying the text. It is very beautiful. May it increase our love of St Joseph.
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

  • I believe both, that after St. Joseph died and before the Resurrection he remained incorrupt, and that after the Resurrection, his body too was raised and he was assumed into Heaven.

As the saints themselves who believed it admit, this is pious believe ... although St. Francis de Sales characterized it as certain and without a doubt.

I know of no First Class relics of St. Joseph to be in existence.
