Seriously, man? [....] Erik wasn't chosen to play an "average Mexican fruit picker" or something. Erik's character (Ponch) is a glamorous, young Californian motorcycle-riding highway patrol officer.
About as "
Californian" as U.S. Senator Bahbwa Boxah.
You give yourself away as a near-racist with this one [...]. The only similarity I see is the Mexican face (brown skin, black hair) and the glasses. Do Mexicans all look alike to you [...] ?
That is a rather provocative challenge. People who live in the continental U.S.A. west of the Sabine River really ought to avoid assuming that the, um, "multicultural" shortcomings of people in other places are focused on the
same ethnic groups as those of the less "inclusive" of their own neighbors.
[...] you do realize that Erik Estrada was a New Yorker?
Not only was Estrada born in East Harlem (
New York City), but also as an ethnic
Borinqueño. For U.S. readers west of the Sabine River, that means he's
not Mexican, nor from any other continental ethnic group from "South of the Border", but instead, he's a
Puerto Rican-  !  His heritage might be best described by their modern in-your-face demonym "NuYoRican".
