  • Thanks.   I read one of his books and I thought it contained some liberalism.

    Maybe instead of being on tv , he should have advised Catholics to turn off their tvs.
    May God bless you and keep you

    But the Church in the 20th century must be fundamentally good to be blessed with Paul VI.

    Wow, what was he smoking? :fryingpan:
    I hold it true, whate'er befall;
    I feel it, when I sorrow most;
    'Tis better to have loved and lost
    Than never to have loved at all.
    (In Memoriam A. H. H., 27.13-17 Alfred, Lord Tennyson)

  • Neo-modernism and liberalism didn't just pop out of nowhere in 1962.  Right now we are using the 1958 edition of Life In Christ for our homeschool religion course, and even though, all in all, it is safely traditional and orthodox, there is the occasional pothole around which you have to maneuver.  Its section on baptism of desire (not going to get into any BOD debates here, I'm of two minds on the matter) vaguely hints of Francis's recent universalist comments.

  • I remember one night about 20 years ago watching a rerun of +Sheen's "Life is Worth Living" from the 1950s and he made a shockingly positive comment about Fr. Teilhard de Chardin.  This CI topic brought this +Sheen comment back to mind  (sorry-I don't have an exact quote) and lead me to query the Bing Search Bot and I came up with this doozy of a quote:

     "Writing forty-eight years ago, Roman Catholic Archbishop Fulton Sheen predicted, “It is very likely that within fifty years when all the trivial, verbose disputes about the meaning of Teilhard’s ‘unfortunate’ vocabulary will have died away or have taken a secondary place, Teilhard will appear like John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila, as the spiritual genius of the twentieth century.”"

    FWIW: I've also read many of Fr. Feeney's issues of "The Point." and Fr. Feeney was not a fan of +Sheen:

    "The heresy of Americanism is fostered and advanced mainly by a few highly conspicuous and successful American priests, who have made their reputations on their ability to display their own sparkling personalities and good citizenship, while obscuring the Catholic Faith. One such priest is Fulton J. Sheen, who presents us with the spectacle and the scandal of a Catholic bishop, sworn to preach and defend the Faith even to the shedding of his blood, offering to the millions of Americans who see him on television, a “non-sectarian” program. Bishop Sheen never indicates that he is worried about, or even interested in, the eternal salvation of his audience; nor does he ever tell them anything that they would need to know in order to achieve that salvation."

  • Fr. Feeney shows his defense of the True Faith.  He put a lot of effort into saving souls!
